The Thai Poosam event, including the paal kudam abishegam to Vel was held on Thursday 9th Feb 2017.
The ThaiPoosam Festival will be celebrated in our temple on the auspicious Pusam Natchathiram Day on Thursday February 9th.
The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month, Thai (January), and the name of a star, Pusam. This particular star is at its highest point during the festival. The festival commemorates the occasion when Goddess Parvati gave Load Murugan a Vel “spear” so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman.
It is believed that carrying பால் குடம் (Milk Pot) on “THAIPUSAM” day and doing “Vel Abishekam” is one of the most sacred and powerful way of thanking Lord Muruga and praying for betterment.
SMS has arranged for a Brass “Vel” of 2.5 feet high along with a stand from India for this festival.
